Dewalt DC729KA Cordless Drill Average Review:

As part of a recent rennovation project I managed to break my old drill and needed to quickly replace it with something of high quality to finish the job. I wanted to make sure that the drill I bought was able to do everything I needed it to and would stand the test of time. I carried out quite a bit of research online and ended up finding the Dewalt DC729KA Cordless Drill Driver popping up time and time again. I decided to look into this model a little further and here is what I found.

What does the manufacturer say about their drill?

Dewalt state the the DC729KA is powerful and ideal for drilling and screwdriving applications. It features a compact and lightweight design making it ideal for prolonged use along with storage. Dewalts has trademarked the term ‘Guranteed Tough’ which hints at their tools being well built and durable. They gurantee it!

Features of the Dewalt DC729KA Cordless Drill

That’s just what I need!

A very good feature of the Dewalt DC729KA Cordless Drill is the ability to charge it in 1 hour. That means that should it run out of power when in use you are not going to be left hanging around waiting for the battery to come back to life. Dewalt have taken that a step further with this drill and provide you with two batteries meaning you can charge one while using the other. Even better!

While I am on the topic of the batteries…

As I mentioned above the drill comes with 2 battery packs. They are 18v 1.3 Ah NiCD cells. There are advantages to having NiCD batteries which I will list below:

  • They are very difficult to damage and are able to survive long periods of deep discharge where other types of batteries would fail.
  • NiCD batteries typically allow for an increased number of charge / discharge cycles meaning that they need to be replaced less often.
  • They are smaller and lighter than other types of batteries with the same level of output. This contributes to the low total weight of the drill.
  • NiCD will retain their charge capacity even under the heavy drain when powering your drill. Again this means that they need to be replaced less often.

What do you mean? I am not a control freak!

The Dewalt DC729KA features 17 stage torque control. This means that you are able to precisely select the level of torque depending on the type of hole being drilled. You can set the torque low to turn a smaller drill bit and then swap the torque to high to easily to turn larger drill bits. When you combine this with the two speed motor and variable speed trigger on the drill you are left with a drill that will rarely not be able to tackle the job at hand.

Do I look big in this?

The drill weighs only 2kg. This is achieved without compromising the build quality. As the Dewalt DC729KA has such a low weight it makes it possible to use the drill for prolonged periods of time without fatigue. You will find yourself finishing tasks more quickly as you take less rest between operations.

Does it come with a warranty?

Dewalt offer a comprehensive warranty with all their tools. The DC729KA comes with a 1 year free service contract that means Dewalt will replace any parts that become worn from normal use. In addition to this you are given a 3 year warranty that covers any faults or defects caused by the manufacture of the tool. To sum up you are basically covered from 3 years from the date of purchase for all things excluding normal wear and tear or abuse of the power tool.

Bosch PCM 7 Compound Mitre Saw Average Review:

A friend of mine recently moved house and as part of the cleanup he decided that a new carpet wouldn’t do it alone. He needed new skirting boards too. He needed something to cut the correct lengths accurately along with the 45 degree joint to allow the boards to meet in the corner of the room. I advised him to look into buying a mitre saw and as niether of us had any prior knowledge I set about researching a few different saws. Here is what I found regarding the Bosch PCM 7 Compound Mitre Saw.

Features of the Bosch PCM 7 Compound Mitre Saw

1100 Watt Bosch PCM 7 Softgrip Bosch PCM 7 Laser Guide Bosch PCM 7

The Bosch PCM 7 is able to cut both bevel and mitre increasing its versatility and usefulness for more jobs around the home. If you need to cut anything quickly and precisely you are perfectly equipped with this saw. The saw is ideal for strips, slats, boards, square timbers with a small cross-section or narrow wall panels. It also performs well when tasked with material like wide square timbers, thick beams or wide parquet panels.

The more watts the better?

The first thing I noticed about the saw is that it comes with a powerful 1100 watt motor. A powerful motor is essential when choosing your saw as it allows it to tackle tougher jobs and 1100 fits into that bracket nicely. This means that not only will he be able to cut skirting board he can use it around the house for other jobs. Excellent!

Getting to grips with it!

The saw also comes with a soft grip style handle. As this is the point of contact between you and the saw it is an important feature in my opinion. As working with power tools can be dangerous it is crucial to stay in control of the saw at all times. This grip allows you to do just that whilst remaining comfortable during prolonged use.

Keep it clean…

Featuring a no-load speed maximum of 4800 revolutions per minute the saw will provide a clean, razor sharp cut at all times.

How do I know where I am cutting?

When the saw is in an open position it is difficult to tell where the teeth are actually going to make contact. The Bosch PCM 7 features a laser that quickly shows you exactly where the cut will be made and allows for fine adjustments to be made quickly. This is brilliant as when I have done work in the past I have been slightly out with measurements or cuts and had to waste materials as a result.

In addition the saw is very compact & lightweight at only 8kg making it simple to move around and store. There is a dust bag attachment which is great for reducing the amount of mess but better still is the option to connect the saw to your hoover using the dust extraction port. This significantly reduces the mess made when cutting meaning less time spent cleaning up after yourself!

Keep on cutting!

The saw comes equipped with TCT blades (Tungsten Carbide-Tipped) for durability. This means that each tooth on the cutting edge is tipped with a carbide material to increase strength prevent dulling of the sharp edge. This typically means that the saw will remain sharp for between 10 & 20 times longer than a standard blade.

Does it come with a warranty?

The Bosch PCM 7 Compound Mitre Saw comes with a 2 years manufacturer warranty giving you peace of mind with your purchase. Given the build quality of this tool it is not likely you will need to use the warranty but its there nevertheless.
